Rose came to see me for a therapy session after a lapse of six months.  When I first met her, she was homeless, still actively in her lifetime alcohol addiction, and, at 48 years old, had multiple health problems, including arthritis, diabetes, and frequent infections that led her to hospital.  Rose was a survivor of the residential school system, having been sent away from her family at age 6 to a school in another part of the province.  She was concerned that she had little memory of her time at school.  What she did remember was her life afterwards – a life of abuse, alienation, pain and loss.  ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The first time I saw Rose I explained to her that she could heal her life if she made the effort to stop drinking long enough to give herself a chance to experiencel the positive results of the FIT process. In our first session Rose used the FIT process to gain inner resources of self acceptance, love, and comfort for her child-self who was very lonely and scared during her first days at the school.

Rose stopped drinking.  She returned 3 times over the next month to continue with more processes.  Meanwhile she had found an apartment and started to eat more healthily.  She started to spend more time with people that she knew who led healthy lives.  In her fourth session, Rose said that she was starting to remember more about being at the school.  She said that she remembered coming out of a staff’s bedroom feeling very upset and didn’t talk for a long time after – and was punished severely for her inability to communicate.  She said that she could not remember why she was so upset.  I asked Rose to place her right hand over her heart as she thought about coming out of that room.  With heart-conscious access to her own wisdom and knowledge she was suddenly able to remember what had happened.  She was abused in that room; badly abused.  The memory hurt in her stomach and chest and shook her to tears.  Amid her tears, Rose was still able to continue with the process.  She gained the resources of self-respect and purity, as well as activating comfort and love again.  She felt much better after the process.  The next time I checked on her, Rose was getting ready to start school so she could learn to read and write.

It was several months before I saw Rose again.  When I did, I was pleased to hear Rose describe her present life.  “I’m happy,” she said, “I never knew what that really felt like!”  She was still sober and feeling much healthier.  She was very busy learning, volunteering with a community program, and giving love and comfort to troubled youth who seemed to seek her out.

Rose had made the appointment because she wanted to relate a recent dream.  In the dream she was at the top of the stairs in the large residential school building.  She had just finished scrubbing the stairs on her hands and knees, and she felt angry that she was made to do that much work.  We decided that, although she had some anger left for the effort it took to clean those stairs, the stairs also represented her ability to “clean up” her inner garbage and rise to a higher level of self.  We did one more FIT session around the dream to transform her anger to love.  As Rose accessed love and let it activate within her, she glowed with a golden energy.  When finished she was looking incredibly beautiful and peaceful.  Rose now felt even more capable of sharing that love with the people she would meet who are still hurting and lost.

When Rose left my office that day I noticed something on the floor in front of the chair she was in.  It was a little white heart, made of plastic.  I wondered briefly how it got there, but I also thought of why it got there, and I smiled.  It let me know that Rose has become who she was always meant to be, and that she will be quite all right.
