Embrace the Whole Self and Be the Best Version of You
Embrace the Whole Self and Be the Best Version of You
Today I want to talk about how and why you should embrace your whole self. I’ve helped countless women work through aspects of themselves they didn’t like—their so-called faults—and learn to look at those “faults” as their greatest assets and teachers, as positive virtues rather than negative or unacceptable ones.
Most of us tend to look at what we don’t like about ourselves, instead of embracing our whole self. Consider the following Whole Self wheel:
The Whole Self can essentially be grouped into four major facets, or potentials: we see (spiritual), we think (mental), we feel (emotional), and we do (physical). These four potentials work together to make us who we are. Just as a human body has different parts—heart, brain, legs, fingers, hands, etc.—which individually need to be healthy for the physical body to do its best work, it is the same with the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical parts of ourselves—they need to each be nurtured, developed, and exercised in order for our self to function at its best.
As we go through life, all of these facets will interact, so if we are developing each in a balanced way—paying attention to all four potentials—then we have a greater opportunity to be at our best. If, however, we have even one undeveloped part—say emotional for instance—then our whole self would parallel a damaged wheel, a wheel that when moved would move forward in a bumpy way slowing its progress. As the wheel would turn, each aspect would be affected by the damaged part. So if you apply this concept to the whole self, you can see how if one part if missing attention or is damaged, it can affect all the other parts of the self.
So how do you reach this best version of you? Well first you must meet your so-called faults and befriend them with love. To do this we use the Focused Intention Technique (FIT). This technique locates the negative belief and transforms the root cause of the issue. Through FIT, you begin to develop the knowledge of falsely established beliefs—those so-called faults—that currently limit you and keep you from experiencing all that you are entitled to. FIT allows you to “get out of your own way” and develop your whole self so that all you desire can manifest itself and you can be the best version of you.
Now, to help you on your journey to your best self, I’ve created an exercise you can do right now. This exercise can be very powerful, so I sincerely hope you take a few minutes to do it. It could change your life.
Imagine that you’re at a funeral. You look around, taking the entire scene in and notice a number of your friends are there. You then realize that you’re not attending the funeral, but that the funeral is actually yours.
It comes time for your loved ones to make their eulogy to you and one by one they get on stage and share what they admired most about you—they share your best personality traits, all the wonderful things you did in your life, the ways you made the world a better place, etc.
Now, come back to today, and think about what you really want people to say at your funeral. How do you want to be remembered? What person do you want them to describe? How do you want to have lived your life? Think about these things and write down what comes to mind.
Then take a good look at the way you are living right now: Does it fit with your version of the self you just described? If not, what do you need to do to get to that version and what are you willing to embrace and change?
